Integrating Automation and AI: What is Alpha X's Approach to Factory Digitalization in Southeast Asia

Alpha X positions itself not just as a solution provider but as part of a broader ecosystem that connects with partners across countries like Malaysia and Singapore to drive automation and AI advancements. Our organizational core revolves around leveraging automation and artificial intelligence.

When discussing automation, we can break it into three key categories. First, our focus is on integrating automation into factory operations, particularly in Southeast Asia, where many systems operate in silos. The focus isn't just on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integration but on fully digitalizing factory systems to achieve better integration and streamlined automation. This includes logistics automation—after integrating factory operations, it's crucial to automate material handling. In semiconductor manufacturing, the cost of moving materials, like AI chips, especially in multi-layer bonding, is increasing. To optimize this, logistics automation using systems like the Overhead Hoist Transport (OHT) is essential. While autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and traditional robotics have limitations, OHT systems can overcome these challenges effectively.

One of the key drivers for Alpha X has been to introduce AI solutions for manufacturing. For factory automation, we are not only addressing equipment-level automation but also focusing on improving productivity, efficiency, advanced analytics, and quality. We collaborate with equipment suppliers in Germany, China, Japan, and others for factory integration through what we call Equipment Automation Program (EAP). This forms the foundation of our factory integration strategy, which also incorporates advanced process control (APC) and fault detection mechanisms.

From Equipment Connectivity to Real-Time Decision-Making: How Alpha X Elevates Automation

Beyond basic automation (Auto 1), the industry also requires robust transport automation (Auto 2). In the third layer, to minimize human intervention in dispatching decisions, we introduce advanced automation (Auto 3), which is driven by real-time data analysis. At Alpha X, we address not just equipment connectivity but also how data from machines can be mapped into different subsystems—a convergence layer that helps analyze machine events and how various factory applications should respond. This involves developing human-machine interfaces, allowing seamless communication between operators and machines. As factories in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines still face challenges in optimizing equipment, detecting alarms, and scheduling predictive maintenance, Alpha X's solutions bridge this gap by creating a connective layer for equipment automation, helping enhance cycle time and productivity.

In semiconductor manufacturing, we also focus on Real-Time Dispatching (RTD), which optimizes decision-making and delivery processes to minimize reliance on human judgment. For example, during the material processing, RTD helps determine the best lot selection at each stage, thus enhancing productivity and enabling intelligent management. We're also advancing solutions to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in industries reliant on traditional alarm-based systems. Our Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) tools provide real-time detection of production anomalies, enabling rapid root cause identification and analysis, along with swift corrective actions to minimize impact and enhance overall equipment effectiveness. While semiconductor equipment tends to be quite advanced, there is substantial untapped potential in heavy industries where Alpha X's solutions can make a substantial impact.

Beyond factory automation, Alpha X offers comprehensive logistic automation solutions, including stockers, Overhead Hoist Transport (OHT), Overhead Buffer (OHB), and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV). Our Material Control System (MCS) orchestrates the integration of these different automation tools—including conveyors, robotics, and manual processes—enhancing the efficiency of transport systems, particularly in large warehouses.

Industry AI Foundation for Cross-Sector Application: What’s Next

Our next-gen AI initiatives include partnering with various companies to deploy machine learning and deep learning models that can make informed decisions based on data we collect. We refer to our platform as the Industry AI Foundation, which can be adapted to sectors beyond semiconductors, such as medical devices, chemicals, and renewable energy. By using established semiconductor standards for equipment and ecosystem integration, we ensure our solutions are easily transferrable to other industries.

For instance, our AI-powered business intelligence chat solution allows for dynamic interaction with machines, accessing historical data and enhancing equipment understanding. This AI chatbot, instead of relying on manual recall of equipment events, offers engineers on-demand insights to assist with day-to-day operations, pushing beyond the traditional system capabilities.

At Alpha X, we are committed to driving the future of manufacturing through advanced automation and AI solutions, seamlessly integrating hardware and software for a more connected and intelligent factory. Whether it's enhancing productivity with our Equipment Automation Program, optimizing decision-making with Real-Time Dispatching or harnessing the power of next-gen AI, we have the tools and expertise to transform your factory operations!
